Just in case I haven’t told you, I think Iceland is the most beautiful place on earth. They also have the most beautiful women on the planet (for real), amazing nature, friendly and social people, delicious (and healthy) food, good beer (surprised?), and great music.
About 2 months ago on my trip to Iceland, I compiled this playlist of Icelandic music, consists of Icelandic bands. It’s a mix of genres between rock, pop, electronic, shoegaze etc. I’ll start with the most famous ones, then moving on to the indie and less recognized. Hope you enjoy the playlist.
Jónsi – Animal Arithmetic
I’m sure you know that Jónsi is (or was?) the front-man / vocalist of Sigur Ros band.
Emiliana Torrini – Serenade
Yup, this beautiful lady is half Italian, half Icelandic. You might have heard of her song “Jungle Drum” and “Heartstopper“.
Bjork – It’s Oh So Quiet
Well this one does not need an introduction.
Sigur Rós – Hoppípolla
This is actually not their official music video for the song “Hoppípolla”. This is a trailer to their documentary “Heima”. It’s about their random shows at random venues when they were back home in Iceland after touring around the world… Church, abandoned warehouse, in the nature, etc..
Okay.. after this, you probably have never heard of any of them… If you have, you are a minority.. like me 🙂
Ourlives – Blissful Ignorance
Feldberg – You and Me
Múm – If I Were A Fish
Bang Gang – I Know You Sleep
Hjaltalín – Feels Like Sugar
Sing For Me Sandra – Time Will Tell
Dikta – Someone, Somewhere
Stafrænn Hákon – Ratio 8:3 (at least)
Sorry, I couldn’t find a good quality audio on YouTube for this song.
Stafrænn Hákon – Ratio 8 3 (at least) by Olafur Josephsson
Lára Rúnars – In Between
Oh she is also a blogger and an ex-CEO of Iceland’s biggest record store… just quit apparently. Here’s Lára Rúnars’s blog.
